Hours: 4am - 2:30pm Mon-Thurs

What We’re Seeking

E.A. Sween is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Quality Control Lead. The Quality Control Lead will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of quality control for our company's products. This is a key role in ensuring the safety and quality of our products, as well as maintaining compliance with all regulatory requirements.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

Food Safety and Quality:

  • Implement assigned food quality and continuous improvement activities to support Safe Quality Foods Code requirements, regulatory requirements and customers’ requirements.
  • Work with Quality Assistant to ensure portions, net weights and MAP checks are conducted according to standard work, and records indicate pre-set standards are being met.
  • Ensure that all QC testing equipment (scales, O2/CO2 equipment) is calibrated and maintained.
  • Ensure food safety and quality documentation meets the requirements of SQF Level III.
  • Identify training needs and organize training interventions to meet food safety and quality standards.
  • Develop and implement calibration requirements for thermometers used during receiving of raw materials and finished goods daily and audit documentation.
  • Conduct daily environmental monitoring and assist with H&T sampling.

GMP and Safety:

  • Cooperate with all aspects of the safety program at E. A. Sween Company
  • Create and update GMP training materials and present training sessions to employees
  • Completes all personal safety and food safety related training.
  • Report near miss & hazardous conditions to my supervisor or the safety team.

Personal and Company Development:

  • Mentor Quality Assistant and share expertise.
  • Enhance qualifications for the Quality Control Lead position by attending related seminars or classes as directed by supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, requested, up to, and including providing coverage for other departmental functions.
  • Professionally represent Deli Express to our supplier, industry and government.

What You’ll Need (Qualifications)

  • High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework in food science or related field is preferred
  • Must be able to lift waist high and carry up to 40 pounds (rarely)
  • Must be able to work in a cold environment (55 degrees to -10 degrees Fahrenheit) regularly
  • Able to stand on feet for extended periods of time frequently
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, oral and written
  • Attention to detail and strong understanding of quality control procedures
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Basic math and computer skills (Microsoft word and excel)
  • Experience with verification and validation requirements for SQF or BRC certification
  • Ability to operate an iPad
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Experience with training programs preferred
  • Must have the ability to effectively speak and teach in front of groups of people
  • Cross-cultural competence; effective and respectful interactions with people from any culture or place of origin
  • Maintain and extend a positive attitude to work environment and be able to accept/withstand negative feedback from others
