What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

Health & Safety

  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by educating and directing employees on the use of all control points and resources; maintain compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Enforce safety policies and procedures (both in-house and regulatory) to decrease the potential for employee injuries on the job. Acts as a point of contact for after-hours for employees and plant security.
  • Request for onsite drug screening for safety incidents with property damage, for reasonable suspicion (behavioral incidence) after hours. Consult with HR and management regarding the next step.

Food Safety

  • Ensure team members are following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to support the company in producing safe quality food.
  • Work with Senior management to ensure all corrective actions from audits are completed and reviewed.
  • Partner with the Maintenance department to ensure the company actively maintains the facility and prioritizes repairs to the facility and equipment based on food safety risk to product or process.
  • Comply with food safety regulations and current GMP’s to result in the delivery of safe food products.
  • Ensure that all employees, including new employees, are adequately trained, instructed and supervised in food safety principles and practices commensurate with food allergens and food defense on an annual basis.
  • Ensure that all finished products can be traced to the lot numbers or code dates of any ingredients, raw materials and rework used.
  • Ensure that written procedures are established to determine the safety and security of returned goods, how they are to be segregated and evaluated for food safety and food safety concerns when received.

Leadership

  • Determine when training is needed and what type of training is appropriate.
  • Encourages and assists associates focus on solutions and not problems and coordinates with other Supervisors in identifying solutions to issues and modifying standard work within the production department.
  • Keep employees informed of department goals and results.
  • Communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring and appraising job results, coaching and counseling and disciplining employees, initating, coordinating and enforcing systems, policies and procedures.
  • Audit and validate employee time and attendance. Record and track employee attendance, issue warnings when needed.
  • Maintain staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting and facilitating training employees, develop personal growth opportunities for employees.
  • Manages 70 – 120 team members along with manage the entire production processes.
  • Maintains standards of performance.
  • Updates standard work for all positions annually or as improvements or changes are made.
  • Resolve employee relation issues and mediation by investigating, interviewing witnesses and analyzing information to help determine the issue and follow progressive disciplinary steps or give recommended actions to HR for further disciplinary measures.
  • Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Work remotely with purchasing, planning, food safety & quality, R&D and maintenance teams or management to resolve production related issues.

Operations/Supply Chaing Logistics

  • Ensure operation of equipment by calling for repairs; evaluating new equipment and techniques and work with maintenance department to prioritize repairs.
  • Inform Director of Operations of any production variations or staffing issues daily as well as departmental performance measures, including visual controls and provides regular progress reports.
  • Ensures Temp Room, Warehouse and Pack Off areas meet goals by reducing rejects, waste, downtime and GMP infractions and schedules the resources to meet daily production expectations.
  • Maintains workflow by monitoring steps of the process; setting processing variables; observing control points and equipment; monitoring employees and resources; studying methods; implementing cost reductions; developing reporting procedures and systems; facilitating corrections to malfunctions within process control points; initiating and fostering a spirit of cooperation within and between departments.
  • Communicate with various departments to complete production plan by scheduling and assigning employees; accomplishing work results; establishing priorities; monitoring progress; revising schedules; resolving problems; reporting results of the processing flow on shift production summaries.
  • Manage production schedule by consulting remotely with planning and scheduling for contingency plans in case of production shortages or unexpected issues. Creates and schedules work orders as directed by planning.
  • Works in conjunction with Warehouse Supervisors to ensure raw materials are issued to the work orders according to work order completion, validate or investigate variances and report unsolved variances to data center for further review. Issue film, paper rolls and pouches to work orders as the last step to work order completion.
  • Coordinates efficient and effective product changeovers.
  • Provides production information by compiling, initiating, sorting and analyzing production performance records and data; answering questions and responding to requests.
  • Creates and revises systems and procedures by analyzing operating practices, record-keeping systems, forms of control, and budgetary and employee requirements and implementing change.
  • 2nd shift Supervisors manage control upkeep of trailer storage and take immediate action if trailer-reefer unit is reported faulty and gives direction on the next cause of action.
  • Quantity of trailer storage at facility. If high or low materials, reorganize raw materials to free up field trailers-prioritize the needs.
  • Ensure the necessary corrugate materials are available for packaging so that finished goods can be shipped to D.C/J&B.
  • Ensures receiving team receives all raw loads according to standard work process, work with them or other departments to resolve issues.
  • CD trailer movement between facility and NorthStar. Manage the yard truck/CDL driver to ensure timely movements of finished shipments and positioning of stored inventory for production.

Quality Assurance/Continuous Improvement

  • Assures CCP monitoring and documentation is completed according to the HACCP plan.
  • Assures SSOP’s are monitored and the documentation is completed.
  • Performs necessary audits of the process to ensure compliance with standard work and 6S. Balance quality, productivity, cost, safety and employee morale to achieve positive results in all areas. Work to continuously improve in all areas by participating in relevant department projects and teams as needed.

Research and Development

  • In conjunction with R&D, create and maintain an efficient, hygienic and positive working environment, promote health and safety in the workplace, display good work ethic, resourcefulness and organization.
  • Understands the Standard Operating Procedures and Inspection Regulations of R&D.
  • Works with R&D too:
    • Develop new products – provide input for the development of new products and managing new product development projects, research consumer markets and analyze the trail results.
    • Commercialize Products – Provide input for improving existing products and processes to develop value-added and innovative uses for excess raw materials by-products. This also applies to providing input into cost optimization, improving the manufacturing process and product development and improvement.

What You’ll Need (Qualifications)

Required

  • Associates degree.
  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience in a production environment.
  • Previous experience in food manufacturing and/or clean room environment.

Preferred

  • Previous quality control experience.
  • Previous machine operating experience.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 5-8 years of supervisory experience in a production environment.
  • Supervising employees from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Basic computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Previous management experience.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Highly motivated and willing to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ale to work well with various levels of employees and diverse cultures.
  • Able to keep with manufacturing speeds.
  • Able to work continuously in cool temperatures (35-50 degrees).
  • Able to stand and walk continuously along with continuously using hands to fingers, handle or feel, reach overhead with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl as well as the ability to bend, turn, push, pull.
  • Able to frequently lift or move up to 25 – 40 lbs.
  • Continuously able to visually see close up, distance, color and peripheral vision along with depth perception and able to focus.
